It was inevitable. After the debate disaster, it seemed like only a matter of time before Joe Biden had to drop out of the race for President. He earned the right to make this monumental decision himself. I believe it was the right decision.
I get why people were saying we should support him after his debate performance. Everyone can have a bad night, they said. Anything less than full support for Biden would help his convicted felon opponent, they said. And, I agree with everyone who believes this country cannot afford to have Donald Felonious anywhere near the White House ever again.
There was an aspect to all of this, though, that in my mind, did not get discussed enough. A lot of the talk about Biden’s fitness for office centered around Joe Biden the candidate, or Joe Biden the savior of American democracy. But what about Joe Biden the human being? What about Joe Biden the man? What if physically and mentally he simply was not up to the job anymore? As we all know, Father Time is undefeated.
It would have been wrong, cruel even, to keep pushing him out on the campaign trail. He would have been analyzed and scrutinized for every mistake or misstep. He was never going to be able to shake the image created by the debate - that of a feeble, old man. His legacy would have been that of someone who hung on too long; someone who didn’t know when to quit.
Now, with this act of courage and statesmanship, Joe Biden’s legacy is that of a man who put his country before his pride and ambition. And, while there are many, many differences between him and his fascist degenerate opponent, the fact is that Joe Biden stepping aside for the good of our country, is something the lying liar Republican nominee would never, never do.
So, now I’m ready to rock with Kamala Harris. I hope the Democrats get behind her quickly. A floor fight at the convention is absolutely the last thing the Democrats need. She has earned this opportunity, and, frankly, at this late stage, it would be a huge mistake to pass her over. Â
It’ll be exciting to have a strong, vigorous candidate to go out on the campaign trail to kick some orange ass. I can’t wait.
You all just handed Trump the Presidency on a golden platter..
Hear hear!
