Make the Correct Choice

This a Public Service Announcement

You know, I’ve written almost 90 of these little essays since I started The Storm. By Norm in January of 2023. There seems to be a consistent storm of thoughts swirling around in my head, and each week I pick one out and write it up. While I hope everyone likes my essays, in all honesty, I write for an audience of one - me. I write what pleases me, and that seems to be working out okay.

However, perhaps now it is time for me to write something for the betterment of society. I thought this week’s posting should be in the form of a Public Service Announcement. I want to write something that others may find helpful in navigating the complexities and challenges that we’ll all face in this tumultuous election year. Okay, let’s give it a try.

Everyone knows there is a presidential election coming up very soon. But there is still time to look the candidates over and make an informed decision.

Throughout the remaining days before the election, there will be many appeals to the electorate to get out and vote. We here at The Storm. By Norm want to encourage folks to get out and vote, too.

With one caveat.

Get Out and Vote! (But Only If You Intend to Vote for the Correct Candidate.)

Now, some people may be thinking, “Gee, Norm, how will I know which candidate is the correct candidate?” It just so happens I can help you with that.

This year, the choice could not be more stark. Representing the Democrats we have the current Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris. And, the Republicans have chosen . . . ah, well, his name is not important.

On the surface, the choice is pretty easy. A deeper dive reveals the choice to be even easier. If one candidate is a convicted felon, and is still facing dozens of criminal charges that have yet to be adjudicated, and has been proven to be a lying, grifting scumbag throughout his entire miserable life, then one could reasonably conclude that person is not the “correct candidate”.

Now, I know there are folks who would have tremendous difficulty going against their party. As we prepare to cast our ballots, what I would suggest is to remember that our votes, first and foremost, should be for the common good. This means we should be voting for the best person for the job, rather than whatever political parties the candidates claim to represent.

Political parties can be useful, in the sense that they provide a kind of shorthand way to determine a candidate’s views on a myriad of issues. So a voter can say, “H’mm, I don’t know much about these candidates, but I know where Republicans and Democrats stand on issues important to me, so I’ll just vote for the party.” The problem with this is, what if the other party’s candidate is demonstrably better, less of a narcissistic, compulsive liar, and less criminally inclined? Then what? 

Being a member of a political party is not a binding agreement. Voting for the same party your whole life, as did your parents and grandparents, does not preclude you from voting for a candidate affiliated with the other party, if you so choose. Voters can cast a ballot for whichever candidate they want and do not have to explain it to anyone. Really, it’s okay.

For those who are still hung up on party affiliation, let’s review the candidates in a little more depth.

There’s no denying the fact that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris took over the Presidency and Vice Presidency at a particularly tumultuous moment in history. They had one hell of a mess to clean up, not the least of which was the previous administration’s disastrous mishandling of a deadly global pandemic. Consequently, it has taken time to get done what has needed doing. Inflation has been a problem, no doubt. However, the numbers are coming down, according to the economists. And, the Biden/Harris administration allowed their opponents to control the narrative regarding the issues along our southern border, for which they have paid a price in various opinion polls.

The accomplishments of the Biden/Harris administration sometimes get lost in the noise. They have done an excellent job bringing the unemployment rate down to nearly record lows, while the stock market has reached record highs. According to recent crime stats released by the FBI, crime is down in nearly every category. They have worked to rebuild America’s infrastructure. They have championed the increased use of renewable energy sources. Prescription drugs are much cheaper, due to their determined efforts. They have worked with our allies to rebuild confidence in America as a reliable global partner. And, they wholeheartedly support the rights of women to make decisions about their own bodies.

On the other hand, we have Kamala’s opponent.

“Bring me four Big Macs, three large fries, twenty-five packets of ketchup, and a gallon of Diet Coke.”

In a recent poll of presidential historians, Biden’s predecessor was judged to have been the worst president ever. Even worse than Buchanan, Harding, W, and Nixon, worse than anyone to ever hold the highest office in the land. And, now he wants to be President again? To this I say, “Fuck no!”

There is a thought exercise I engage in once in a while. It’s called, “What if Joe Biden or Barack Obama . . .” and it involves listing things the lying degenerate Regressive Party nominee has done, but imagining the MAGA firestorm if Joe Biden or Barack Obama had done any of them. It goes like this:

What if Joe Biden or Barack Obama -

. . . was charged and convicted of falsifying his business records to hide payments buying the silence of a porn actress with whom he had an affair?

. . . had attempted to blackmail a foreign government into providing dirt on a political opponent?

. . . had mismanaged the response to a global pandemic so badly, that hundreds of thousands of Americans died needlessly?

. . . was such a terrible businessman, that three casinos he owned went bankrupt? (As I’ve said before, what kind of moron loses money owning a casino? The games are rigged in favor of the house!)

. . . was adjudged in civil court to have sexually assaulted a woman in a department store dressing room? (Then he continually defamed her, for which she might end up owning many of his prized New York properties.)

. . . incited an insurrection at the US Capitol?

. . . tried to overturn a free and fair election for President of the United States?

. . . cared so little about what was best for America, that he ordered his enablers in Congress to kill a bipartisan bill meant to address the so-called “invasion” of “terrorists and criminals” (his words, not mine) at our southern border, because passing the bill would help his political opponent?

. . . cozied up to worst dictators on Earth, telling Vladimir Putin to do whatever the hell he wanted to any of our NATO allies who were not current on their financial obligations to the alliance?

. . . was so senile that he apparently couldn’t tell the difference between Nikki Haley and Nancy Pelosi? Or saw a picture of E Jean Carroll and thought it was one of his ex-wives?

. . . committed financial fraud in New York so egregious that the penalty was nearly half a billion dollars?

There are many, many more, of course. Anyone with half a brain would never consider this guy the correct candidate for street sweeper, let alone President of the United States.

Once again, I encourage sane, normal Republicans to take back their party from the evil fascist that is Idiot à l’Orange.

Many Republicans may be thinking they have no choice but to hold their noses and vote for their party’s whiny, incoherent, degenerate nominee. But, you don’t have to do it.

I know that some Republicans just could never bring themselves to vote for a Liberal Black/Asian Woman Democrat. However, look at it this way - perhaps the only way of ridding your party of the virulent cancer that has consumed it these last few years, would be to reject that cancer at the polls, emphatically and forcefully, once and for all. Then, maybe your formerly proud political party could be rebuilt into a haven for America-loving true conservatives, instead the giant looney bin of haters, incompetents, sycophants, and cultists it has become. Putting a mashed potato-brained, Putin-worshipping, lying liar criminal in the White House is wrong. No matter what.

There is a choice. A correct choice. All you have to do is make it.
