Thanks for reading my stuff, Sara. We subscribe to MLB.TV so I can watch my team, the Pittsburgh Pirates 140+ times a year. It is hard not to be impressed by their star rookie, Paul Skenes. He has a 100 mph fastball, a nasty slider, and a funky hybrid pitch he calls a “splinker”. To me, his best quality is, he has excellent control of his pitches. He does not walk a lot of guys. I get annoyed with pitchers who constantly struggle to get the ball over the plate. Ball one, ball two, ball three, it makes me holler at the TV sometimes. Another guy who’s really good is Corbin Burnes of the Orioles. He throws a lot of strikes. Someone who is maybe not an All Star calibre pitcher, but who is consistently around the plate is Miles Mikolas of the Cardinals. Kyle Hendricks of the Cubs is another strike thrower I appreciate.
Norm I always love seeing your Posts on my email. Even when I should be busy writing my own, I stop and take the time to read yours first. You should be honored...and sometimes you are the cause of my delays in getting my posts out as often as I'd like....
When I am eating good ice cream.....I mean the kind that is made with actual cream and not patched with ice....I put the bowl in the microwave, with my ice cream in it, and set it for just 5 seconds or so....just enough to start that dreamy creamy drizzle you so love. Me, too. I usually eat it from the bottom up, rolling it over as I go. Now I need to go out and buy some decent ice cream. I love your cat and that your cat loves a clean kitchen. After all, the cat needs to know that the old food has been removed so he doesn't get a tummy ache from a few pieces of an old ham sandwich or something that fell on the floor last week and slipped under the counter. Good job. Your mother taught you well.
I love Blue Sky. I love almost every song that has the word blue in the title. Blue Velvet, Blue Moon, Rhaposody in Blue....You get it. Keep writing. You are my happy place. And one day I will take extra time to check out your book.
Thank you, Kate. Always enjoy your comments. I roll my ice cream over in the bowl, too. 😊 More excellent “Blue” songs: Blue Collar Man by Styx, Blue World by The Moody Blues, and Blue On Black by Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
You and I share many favorite things. I was raised on butter pecan ice cream, it was my mom's favorite. I can't buy it without thinking of her.
I also am happy when I have a clean kitchen. Just seeing that there are no dishes in the sink makes me feel like I've accomplished something...even if it's just for a few hours because I have cooked something else and put the dishes back in the sink.
And I have as much loathing for the Orange man as you do. Right now I am particularly enjoying the civil war between the MAGA tech bros and the MAGA base. It's probably unhealthy the amount of joy I get watching the YouTube stories about these groups turning on each other. I also enjoy the FAFO stories about Trump supports realizing that they have screwed themselves by electing the Orang buffoon.
Spring is also something I look forward to every year. I hate winter because I have season affective disorder (SAD) which is an appropriate acronym. I am down in the dumps until the weather warms up and the flowers start to bloom.
My biggest joy comes from my pets. I don't have a Pearl, but I have two rescue dogs who are my happy place. People who don't love animals are missing out. My dogs are a source of so much love. I can't imagine my life without them.
Wondering who some of your favorite pitchers are: might this be a topic for a future essay?

Oh my goodness, how could I have forgotten one of my all time faves? Behind Blue Eyes by The Who.
Got it!

Great post Norm!
Thank you, Sarah. It’s always nice to know that someone’s out there reading my stuff. It is gratifying. And humbling.
