What you wrote are not truly things that prove temporary things do not exist. So, we can hope that "thing" that has invaded our country posing as a man, is not a 'thing' at all, but a 'nightmare' that will eventually evaporate back into Hell where he came from with his MAGA (not Magi) followers.
"God Bless and save America!!" Stand tall and protest loudly.
(However, I must confess when I began to watch and cheer for the Bengals, I bought a new Bengals flag and hung it off my back deck on game day, proudly. And when I did, they lost. So, I decided I had the power to control their wins and losses in my all mighty ego, and brought the flag in prior to the games. And, behold! when I did bring it in, they began to Win! WTH did I do?? Amazing how far our ego thinks it can reach! I hung it out a couple of times last season the first days of the season and they won one and lost one. So I finally succumbed to the fact that I was not wholly responsible for ripping the hearts out of the loyal Cincinnati fans. Amen.)
You know, Kate, deciding whether something is a “thing" or not actually helps me to let go of stuff that bugs me. It’s not 100% foolproof, but sometimes if I can tell myself (before it’s too late), “Come on, that’s not a thing.”, I can stop myself from getting all riled up over it. However, I need to get better at dealing with stuff that really are “things”.
I really enjoyed this post. It's funny how we as humans think we can influence the outcome of things by doing certain rituals. I think this is part of our primitive brain that makes us human. The rituals of humans goes back to the beginning of time. I think we have to feel we have control of our circumstances, so we invent rituals we think can influence the fate. Now that you've pointed out the obvious, it's nonsensical but it is a very human thing to do.
As for people voting for a felon and believing his is the second coming of Jesus, well....that's a whole other ballgame. There are some connections between being religious and being sheep. In religion, they tell you you have to do a "leap of faith". In other words, don't question it, just accept it to be true. Trump tells his followers the same thing- Don't believe the Press, they are all lying to you. Don't believe the court system, these charges against me are rigged, and so on. People want to believe what they want to believe, regardless of the cold hard facts staring them in the face.
For example, look at how many MAGAs lost 1000s of dollars when Trump crashed the Stock Market, yet they are still fully behind Trump's insanity and are saying it's a good thing. And that's exactly what all of this is, insanity.
And Kristi Neom, yeah, I can't stand that Cosplay Barbie. There's a special place in hell for her for killing that puppy. I hope when all of this turns around they ship her to that El Salvadorian prison. That way she won't have to Cosplay wearing a prison uniform. It will be the real deal.
Thank you, Sarah. I wear the team-branded gear of my favorite football team on occasion, and it is harmless enough. But, I know that unless I'm out there catching passes, I won't have any effect on the outcome of the game. I guess most of us do it simply to feel like a part of the team. And, there's nothing wrong with that.
However, the devotion of the MAGAs to their team is not harmless. It is ruining our country. It is misguided and corrosive. And, they have invested so much of themselves in their team, that it is extremely difficult for them to realize they've chosen the wrong one. Some of them will come to their senses eventually (I hope). It's going to be a long, slow process, unfortunately.
I agree with you 100%. But I think they are behaving like a cult instead of a team. They are exhibiting the sheep like mentally of the Jim Jones variety. They have drank the cool aid and are willing to die for the insane leader. It is definitely brainwashing at it's worst. The simple fact that Trump let one million people die from COVID should have been the only deal breaker needed. But, we are now facing a malignant disease in our body politic. It will take so much just to get us back to what is even close to what is normal. If we ever get there at all.
The truth is there are MAGAs who are now seeing the destruction of his policies. But the only reason they do is because they themselves were impacted. If the "others" where the only ones harmed, they would still be rooting this dumpster fire on. They are fine with Trump and Musk burning everything down as long as it doesn't effect them. So really, they are only waking up because of selfish reasons. They still suck as people.
I hear you LOUD & CLEAR. It's hard to 'stand up' when you'd rather hide sometimes. My bad habit is go to the pub a couple of times a week, where life appears normal, and have a couple libations. It's temporary, but even that helps. Sports help, if my team is winning, or at least I am watching a good contest. Going outdoors helps, but sometimes that's when I think too much and thinking too much is reality and that stinks. Stay in your best bubble. Try to not get too involved in news or between your own ears. That is only 6", as my mom always said and it only lives in our head if we let it. Keep the demons out. Stay close to your loved ones....I highly recommend your animals. Get a horse and spend lots of time in the stable grooming it...or take lots of rides. Take care of your own health. Don't let them get under your skin. I keep telling myself, they aren't worth it. Don't give them control of who you are or want to be. Stay within yourself.
"Don't give them control of who you are or want to be.” That’s the best advice, Kate. If we let them disrupt and take over our lives, then they win. Damned if I’m going to let that happen.

You are so right, Sarah. Couldn’t agree more.

Exactly my point. They are not worth your health.
