What a great trip! I've always wanted to go to Europe but haven't made it there yet. One of my favorite things is European architecture. Sounds like you made the most of it.
And your squeaky shoes....
Why didn't you stop at one of the 10 shoe shops in Koblenz and buy another pair?
Happy New Year to you, too, Sarah. It’s a fair question to ask why I didn’t just buy a new pair of shoes. Here are my reasons:
1. I’m frugal. I have been known to cover holes in my shoes with duct tape.
2. I am such a notorious overpacker, I really had no room for an extra pair of shoes.
3. I’m thrifty. I could never bring myself to throw away a good pair of shoes just because they squeaked.
4. Breaking in a new pair of shoes on vacation seemed like a chancy proposition for my feet.
5. I’m cheap. See 1. and 3. above.😊
The architecture in Europe is definitely amazing. To learn that some buildings have been around for a 1000 years or more, seems incomprehensible. Meanwhile, in this country, our modern day cathedrals are our sports stadiums, which, after 30 years or so, many of them are declared obsolete. Then they tear them down and build new ones. Seems like such a waste.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the impression that you are frugal, LOL. I understand. I didn't think about the possibility that you had no place to put the new shoes when traveling back home. Good point.
Yes, ancient European buildings are amazing and have lasted the test of time. One day I'd like to go see them for myself. Art was one of my favorite subjects in college and architecture was a large part of that class.
I agree, here in America everything is disposable, even our buildings. It truly is sad.
I can enjoy where we are once we are there.(Aside from running into metal poles and disturbing the peace with my shoes.) It’s the getting there and back that I find difficult. And, I dislike being away from my kitties for so long, too. 🐱🐱 Thanks for commenting, Mr Bill.

Always beware of squeaky shoes, hidden poles and people with the sniffles when traveling. Otherwise it sounds like you had a great trip.

Wow what a spectacular trip!! Thanks for sharing. Excellent photos too.
Thanks for the comment, Angela. It’s funny, I do not like going across town and here I am jetting off to Europe. Didn’t think I’d ever be doing that.
